With winter in full swing and almost halfway over, you may be wondering how to keep your home cool during those hot summer months.
Some tips to keeping your home cool are:
1. Open your windows! Be aware of where you are opening them, considering hot air rises. Open your windows on a cooler side of the house, and then open the windows upstairs that are facing the sun. This will give you a cross ventilation, and help to cool your home down slowly.
2. Consider reflective options. If you paint your roof with reflective paint, this will help the sun to bounce off the roof, rather than become absorbed. You can also keep your shades closed to help each room stay in the shadows, and just a bit cooler. In addition to reflective paint and shades, consider adding a big tree to your yard to give the lawn and your home some shade.
3. Insulate your home. Seal up any air holes. This will help to keep the air conditioning locked in!
If you have to do any cooking, be aware of the time of day. You won’t want to be working over a stovetop or inside an oven.
